How to Setup Scan to Folder with Canon iR C2550

After upgrading a Windows 2003 Server to Windows 2012 Server for a client, the Canon iR C2550 would not scan to the new folder which was configured in the same way as the original server. Now the server name was different and so that should have been the only change needed. So why didn't it work. So this is what we did to troubleshoot the issue.

1. DNS - In this case we had to go back to the original DNS configuration and update the DNS to point to the new server since its IP address had changed.

2. Address Book - We also changed the server name in the Address Book's One Touch setting, but accidently removed the double back slashes. So this had to be fixed. In and SMB configuration the Canon iR C2550 needs to have preceding back slashes for the host name or server name. We also had to put a single back slash on the File Path.

3. User Account - The user account was recreated on the new server but it was uncertain if the password used in Active Directory was the same as that used on the copier, so the passwords were reset in both Active Directory and in the One Touch button on the copier.

Here is a sample configuration that we know works, just replace the generic names with your own respective information.

Address Name:  Scans
One-touch Button Name: SCANS
Type:   File
Protocol:    Windows (SMB)
Host Name:  \\MYSERVER
File Path:   \Scans
User:   scanner
Password: {SecretPwd}

After completing the diagnostic process, we were able to get a scan to send to the server, but then any additional scans to the same folder would hang on copier. The only way to remove the hung file transfer was to restart the copier from the Web UI or by cycling the power of the copier.

Since this was a small office of only a few computers all running Windows 7 Pro, we created a scan folder on each computer in the user's Documents folder and shared it so that the copier user account had access to the folder. Then we created new One Touch buttons for the scan to folder for each user's computer. After several scan tests we found that the copier worked fine with Windows 7 consistently.

At this time our speculation is that the Canon iR C2550 copier has a compatibility issue with SMB and Windows Server 2012. Windows 7 happened to be an easy work around, but admittedly not our desired solution.
